サンド Obento

Heyhey! :panda: I missed blogging so much that I’m already back again :nyan:. It’s been ages since my last Obento entry! Today I finally found time again to prepare one. To avoid a plain picture post I’ll try to describe the best I can my approaches on how I start making an Obento. On Anna the red’s bentoblog I read that first of all she makes sketches of how her Obento will look like. Since I’m not good at realistic drawing and I always end up drawing something else than what I wanted to draw originally, I doubt the utility of this approach for me :ghihi:. But maybe I should give it a try just to improve my realistic drawing skills. I start making Obento on impulse and without planning anything. It is useful to have leftovers but since I didn’t cook for the last few days and my fridge is kind of empty I had to improvise.
It’s a real challenge to follow all of the traditional Bento rules but at least I try to make satiable, colorful as well as healthy Obento. Carbohydrates need the most place and are often in form of rice or bread. Vegetables are healthy, assure a colorful looking meal and help to fill the gaps between each portion of food. For the craving there should always be a little place left to fill with meat, fish or cheese (or if you prefere, something sweet).:miam: As I told once before making Obento has something meditative to me. The first thing I do is to decide which Bento-box to use, next I open the fridge and take out food I think would look good in a Bento-box. Keep in mind that a Bento-box has only a limited amount of space and a different shape than a plate so you have to think in other dimensions and prepare or choose food proportional to the size of your box! This part is really important, If you consider the size of the box and the food and use many different colors, your Obento will already look great! Kyaraben (キャラ弁) is not the only way to make your Bento look cute. Pretty much every food food with two eyes applied to it will look adorable :hehe:. I think I never tried doing a Kyaraben because it would make me feel too much restriction. Anyway, here is my sandwich Obento:
